John Andrew Hofmann
John A. Hofmann, 79, of Kenosha, passed away Sunday, June 14th, 2009, at his residence with his loving family by his side. Born on March 26, 1930, in Albany, MN, he was the son of the late Norbert and Rosalia (Jesh) Hofmann. He attended Holy Family Elementary School, Albany Public Schools and graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1955. He served in the United States Army from August 1948 until his honorable discharge in June of 1952. He served in an anti-aircraft battery in Texas, Maryland and England. On November 8, 1952, he married his high school classmate Loretta Thome in Church of Seven Dolors in Albany, MN. John was an Industrial Arts and American History Teacher in Maple Lake, MN, from 1956 until 1967. He then taught Industrial Arts in the Kenosha Public Schools until his retirement in 1986. John was currently a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and a former member of St. Casimir Catholic Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #21 and enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the United States and Canada with his wife. Surviving are his wife, Loretta of Kenosha; his five children, Joan (Kerry) Vermillion of Santa Clarita, CA, Stephen Hofmann of Beach Park, IL, Charles (Terri) Hofmann of Kenosha, Carol (Rex) Swanson of Cottage Grove, MN, and Catherine (Bill) Hart of Lake Forest, IL; a brother, Dr. Gerald (Ardis) Hofmann of Cannon Falls, MN; two sisters, Eileen Achman of New Ulm, MN, and Florence Kotula of Burnsville, MN; nine grandchildren, Benjamin (Lindsey), Andrew, Erica, Eva, Sean, Sara, Anna, Ryan, and Erin; and one great-grandson, Cole. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Nancy Hofmann. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 18th, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 12:30 p.m. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. Visitation will be held on Thursday Our Lady of Mt.
