Vernon R. Higgins, 96, of Kenosha, passed away Wednesday, May 13th, 2009, at Clairidge House Nursing Home. Born on February 24, 1913, in Pleasant Prairie, WI, he was the son of the late Freeman and Lina (Pofahl) Higgins. He was a lifelong resident of Kenosha, educated in local schools. On June 2, 1945, he married Kathryn Wilcox in Bristol. He had been employed by Johnson Motors for many years, retiring in 1979. Vernon was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bristol. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn of Kenosha; his eight children, Melodine Borom of Racine, Aleita (Mike) Antongiorgi of Racine, Elaine Higgins of Zion, IL, Robert Higgins of Kenosha, Lloyd Higgins of Kenosha, Dale Higgins of Kenosha, Curtis (Patricia) Higgins of Racine, and Jerry Higgins of Kenosha; five grandchildren, Connie, Samantha, Richard, Dwayne and Melissa; and nine great-grandchildren. Vernon was a loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather and a great friend. He was loved and adored by everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Jacoby and Ermina Ellingson. Mr Higgins used to walk around the block at 31st ave. He always threw up his hand to say hello. When we first moved in and no one was friendly to us It was that hand in the air and that friendly hello is what I remember about Mr Higgins.
