John Michael GENNACCARO, SR.

1933 ∼ 2009

John M. "Johnny" Gennaccaro, Sr., 76, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 18th, 2009. Born January 17, 1933, in Kenosha, he was the son of the late Peter G. and Jennie (Volpendesta) Gennaccaro. He was educated in the schools of Kenosha. John was an Army Reservist called to active duty in 1952 during his senior year in High School. He was later presented a High School Diploma from Bradford High School during a special ceremony "Operation Recognition" in 2005. He served as a Sergeant in the 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War, receiving the Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Commendation Ribbon with Metal Pendant. On May 15, 1965, he married Peggy Markham in Kenosha. Johnny was formerly employed by American Motors and Simmons Co. until 1963 when he became the owner of Mr. Z’s Lounge in downtown Kenosha. He operated that establishment until December 31, 1968. In 1970 he opened Mr. Z’s Lounge on 30th Avenue and Roosevelt Road where he remained the owner until 2003. He was a member of the Kenosha Jaycees, Italian American Men’s Society and Roosevelt Road Businessmen’s Association. Surviving are his wife off 44 years, Peggy; and their children, Michelle (Dale) Castine, Lori (Gerald) Rice, John Gennaccaro Jr., Gina (Tim) Barden, and Peter (Maggie) Gennaccaro; sixteen grandchildren, Danielle, Joshua, Breanna, Amanda, Dylan, Zachary, Kirsten, Donald, John IV "Mikey", Delanie, Elzie, Dante, Nicholas, Brooke, Donatella and Drake; one great-grandson, Alexander; his sister Theresa "Toots" (Bernard) Galley; sister-in-law, Linda Beglinger; one niece; three nephews; and also many special cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Peter and Jennie; and brother-in-law, Jim Beglinger. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Marlene and Jim Rosko, Carmella and Carl Ricchio, Aurora and Peter Volpendesta, Fran and Frank Puidokas, the Delabio family, Dr. Peter Mariani and Dr. A.J. Capelli.
