I was saddened to hear of Martin's passing. I enjoyed his sense of humor as I got to know him through various travels he and Elsa took through the Kenosha Public Museum. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Elsa and Family. We share your sorrow in the loss of Marty. What a wonderful neighbor and man. He offered such good advice, hearty laughter, and smiles. I will miss the special gifts from his garden. I will miss seeing him nurture his precious tomato plants. I will miss chatting with him on sunny summer days. Rest well. Debbie and Britne

Oh Julie! I just talked to him about three weeks ago. He's like a second father and was giving me good advice about cars. He was in great spirits and was encouraged with Elsa making some kind of recovery. I miss him so much. My first memory of Julie was way back when my mom taught at McKinley Jr. High (remember Jr. Highs?). He took me down into the coal bunkers at the school and let me watch him as he filled a wheel borrow with coal and pushed it over to the furnace. The piles of coal reached the ceiling. I wanted to climb it but he wouldn't let me. I watched as he fed the furnace and I remember the tremendous heat on my face when the furnace opened. I can see his face glowing in the orange of the fire and he smiled as I'm sure he knew how magical that place must have been to a little boy like me. I got to go places in that school most people never see. I have fond memories of visiting Elsa and Julie at their old house in downtown Kenosha. I remember the wall of vines on the business next to their house. I wanted to climb that too. As I grew up and had a family of my own, we made less and less contact. Until about a year or so ago. I am so happy I was able to visit with Elsa and Julie last summer with my children. They got to meet the gentle and absolutely funny man that was Julie. The man who introduced us to "dippin bread". Almost every sit-down meal with the family includes dippin bread now. I raise my olive-oil soaked bread with pepper and garlic in the air. To Julie!
