Mildred E. "Millie" Tate, 95, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9th, 2009, at Brookside Care Center. Born on August 4, 1913, in Kenosha, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Thorpe) Hopkins, Sr. As a child she lived at Mooseheart Home for Children in Mooseheart, IL, where she received her education. She returned to Kenosha in 1947. From 1977 until 1986, she resided in Phoenix, AZ, returning to Kenosha to stay in 1986. On August 26, 1932, she married Leon Tate in Aurora, IL. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1984. Millie was employed as a clerk at Woolworth’s in Kenosha and in a bank cafeteria while she lived in Phoenix. From 1986 until 2007, she was employed part-time cleaning the offices of Dejno’s Trucking. She was a member of Living Light Christian Church, was an avid bowler her whole life (her last game bowled was December 16, 2008), enjoyed playing cards, doing ceramics, baking, making soup, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her two daughters, Carol (Don) Dejno of Pleasant Prairie and Janet Hecht of Mesa, AZ; nine grandchildren, Larry (Lori) Dejno, Cindy (Mike) Auch, Debra (Joel) Swift, Christine (Doug) Eckert, Michelle (Joe) Snyder, Cheryl Martinson, Darrell Hecht, Kerri Schramek, and Kim Hecht; one step grandchild, Kimberly (Ed) Nelson; 20 great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Melvin; and a sister, Alyce Capponi. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14th, at Living Light Christian Church at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Green Ridge Cemetery.
