Daniel C. Weider, 69, died at his home surrounded by his loving family on March 6th, 2009. Dan was born to Carrie and Leigh Weider on April 11, 1939, in Portage, WI. He graduated from Portage High School in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1958 to 1960. Following his military service he moved to Kenosha where he met Barbara M. Gibson and they married on September 5, 1964. Dan worked for 28 years at the Kenosha Post Office. He always had a warm greeting and a joke for the customers. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Marine Corps League, Masonic Lodge #47 F. & A.M., Cub Scout Troop Leader, and the De Molay in Portage, WI. Dan was an avid stamp collector and loved boxing, as he was an avid follower of the Wisconsin Golden Gloves. The pride of his life was his family. Surviving are his wife, Barb of Bristol; a son, Greg (Suzanne) Weider; a daughter, Jeanette Weider; and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Wendell Weider of Baraboo, WI, Larry (Jane) Weider of Fortson, GA, Gary (Joan) Weider of Salt Springs, FL, Kay (David) Hill of Janesville, WI, Sandy (David) Hanson of Rockford, IL, and Penny Weider of Madison, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Leigh Weider, Jr., Tommy Weider, Joyce Michalek, Nan Kreger, Frederick Weider, Howard Weider, and Janice Weider. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 9th, at Proko Funeral Home at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will be held on Monday at Proko Funeral Home from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
