Thomas T. Tyler, Jr.

Thomas T. Tyler, Jr., 78, of Kenosha passed, away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, February 12th, 2009, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus. Born in Cairo, IL, on March 31, 1930, he was the son of the late Thomas and Ella (Blank) Tyler, Sr. He was educated in the schools of Cairo, IL, moving to Kenosha in 1957 to make his home. He served in the United States Army on January 14, 1948, until his honorable discharge on January 21, 1955. He was in the 55th Army Band, 173rd Army Band and 1st Cavalry Division Band before serving overseas during the Korean War. He received the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Korean Service Ribbon with 2 Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Good Conduct Metal. In November of 1956, he married Mary Broyles in Waukegan, IL. She preceded him in death on November 28, 1998. For many years he worked in maintenance at Brookside Care Center, retiring in 1980. He was also employed by Mr. Potter Palmer in Lake Forest, IL, for over 20 years. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Green Bay Road. Surviving are his five children, David Logan of North Chicago, IL, Thomas (Mary) Tyler, III, of Columbia, TN, John Tyler of Kenosha, Audrey (Herbert) Westmoreland of Houston, TX, and Adrienne Tyler of Zion, IL; a brother, Charles (Juanita) Tyler of Racine; and nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of 7 Palmer in Kenosha Medical Center, Dr. Suresh R. Naik and his nurses and staff, and also the entire staff of Brookside Care Center for all of the kind and compassionate care they provided to Thomas. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16th, at Proko Funeral Home at 6:00 p.m. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held on Monday at the Proko Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
