Howard A. Buening, 85, of Kenosha, passed away Wednesday, January 28th, 2009, at Washington Manor Nursing Home. Born on September 29, 1923, in Whitewater, WI, he was the son of the late William and Louise (Southwick) Buening. Howard was a graduate of Whitewater College High School in Whitewater, WI. In January of 1945, he moved to Kenosha to make his home. During World War II, he served in the United States Army, #355 Engineers. He received the European Theatre of Operations Ribbon with 5 Battle Stars, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On December 29, 1945, he married Arbutus Schultz in Salem, WI. She preceded him in death on February 6, 1968. He later married Doris L. Oechler on June 15, 1968, in Kenosha. She preceded him in death on January 9, 2008. Howard was a printer at the Kenosha News for 37 years until his retirement. He was also a member and Past Master of Washburn Lodge, No. 145 F & AM of Bristol, WI. Surviving are a son, Thomas H. Buening of Kenosha; and a grandson, Craig Buening of Kenosha. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Kristopher in October of 1991; and a sister, Kay Daane. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 2nd, at Proko Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
