Wen N. FONK, JR.

1919 ∼ 2009

Wen N. Fonk, Jr., 89, of Kenosha, passed away on Friday, January 9th, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his family. Born on May 30, 1919, in Kenosha, he was the son of the late Wen N. and Elizabeth (Riley) Fonk, Sr. A lifelong Kenosha resident, he was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School in Racine and he also attended Loras College in DuBuque, IA. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was awarded three battle stars while serving in Italy, Africa and France, from July 21, 1941 until his honorable discharge on October 2, 1945. On February 7, 1948, he married Ruth Balk at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on October 7, 2008. Wen was president and co-founder of P.H. & I. Supply Company from 1946 until his retirement in 1986, although retired he still enjoyed to go into work. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and former member of the Elk’s Club, Kenosha Country Club, and Knights of Columbus 3rd & 4th Degree. Survivors include his four children, Elizabeth (Michael Sr.) McConaghy of Kenosha, Nancy (Kevin) Steele of Scottsdale, AZ, Martha (Michael Sr.) Medvecz of Racine, and Wen N. (Iola) Fonk, III of Kenosha; a sister, Joanne Hendricksen of Powers Lake, WI; ten grandchildren, Robert Breiling, Christine (Dean) Moser, Colleen (Jared) English, Andrew Steele, Michael Medvecz, Jr., Matthew Medvecz, Amanda Fonk, Samantha Fonk, Nicole Fonk, and Wen Fonk, IV; and two great-grandchildren, Claire English and Isabelle Breiling. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Natalie Crossin, Frances Herrmann and Mary Nowell; and a brother, Thomas Fonk. The family would like to thank Hospice Alliance Home Care for the wonderful care given to Wen. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 13th, at St. Mary Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will follow at St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
