Ponciano Hernandez
Ponciano Hernandez, 85, of Kenosha, passed away Saturday, December 6th, 2008, at Hospitality Nursing and Rehabilitation with his family by his side. “Ponce” was born November 19, 1923, in Castaños, Coahuila, Mexico. He was the eldest child of the late Evaristo and Julia (Hernandez) Lopez. Ponciano lived the majority of his life in Crystal City, TX, with his wife, the late Maria J. “Pepa” Hernandez. A dedicated, hard-working family man, Ponciano raised six loving children while working as a store manager at Arrañgas Supermarket for twenty years, retiring in 1985. After a long, happy life in Crystal City, Ponciano and his wife moved to Kenosha in 2005 to be near their three daughters. Throughout his life Ponciano worked hard to provide a respectable life for his family. Although not a resident of Wisconsin during his early life, he spent many summers working on different farm fields around the state with his family, making it a second home for them. An avid fisherman and gardener, Ponciano found joy in preparing tasty dishes for his family and friends. He also took pleasure in a scenic family ride through the countryside or watching an exciting game of baseball. Most of all, he enjoyed a relaxing stroll with his two little dogs. A devoted and active Christian, Ponciano was a long-time member of the Primera Iglesia Bautista Church in Crystal City and attended El Calvario Baptist Church in Kenosha. Ponciano is survived by his six children, Martha (Fred) Garcia of Kenosha, Gustavo (Jane) Hernandez of Carrizo Springs, TX, Juan (Linda) Hernandez of Moorehead, MN, Maria Isabel (Tino) Garcia of Kenosha, Sylvia (Joquin) Gomez of Kenosha, and Luis Miguel Hernandez of Tulsa, OK; four siblings, Martha Garza of San Antonio, TX, Angela Salinas, of Piedras Negras, Coah., Mexico, Luisa Martinez of Eagle Pass, TX, and Eduardo Hernandez, of Piedras Negras, Coah., Mexico; sixteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Ponciano was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria J. “Pepa” Hernandez; three children, Raymundo, Jaime, and Lydia; one grandson, Edwardo Garcia; a great-granddaughter in infancy; and his two adored dogs, Osso and Chachita.
