Ruth L. Fonk, 83, of Kenosha passed away Tuesday, October 7th, 2008, at her residence with her family at her side. Born in Kenosha on February 22, 1925, to the late John and Karla (Petersen) Balk, she was a lifelong resident of Kenosha and was educated in local schools. On February 7, 1948, she married Wen N. Fonk, Jr. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Ruth’s family was her most important priority; she was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wen Fonk, Jr.; also surviving her are four children, Elizabeth (Michael, Sr.) McConaghy of Kenosha, Nancy (Kevin) Steele of Scottsdale, AZ, Martha (Michael, Sr.) Medvecz, of Kenosha, and Wen N. (Iola) Fonk III of Kenosha; a brother, John C. (Dorothy) Balk of Kentucky; her ten grandchildren, Robert Breiling, Christine Breiling, Colleen English, Andrew Steele, Michael Medvecz, Jr., Matthew Medvecz, Amanda Fonk, Samantha Fonk, Nicole Fonk, and Wen Fonk IV; and two great-grandchildren, Claire English and Isabelle Breiling. She was preceded in death by her sister, Karla Krampert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 10th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
