Mary F. Steinke, 84, of Kenosha, passed away on Monday, June 30th, 2008, surrounded by her loving family at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. Born on October 12, 1923, in Waggoner, IL, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Bessie (Snow) Pitchford. Mary lived the last two years in Kenosha, most of which was spent at St. Joseph Villa Senior Apartments. Previously, Mary resided in Rankin, IL. On January 21, 1950, she married Mr. Donald Steinke at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tampico, IL. In recent years, Mary was a homemaker. Although her family was always her priority, she did work outside her home most of her life. Among her employers were Illinois Bell, Ellis Grain Elevator, Sohigro, a liquor distributing company, and an insurance agency. Mary’s hobbies involved the outdoors. She was an avid gardener, both flowers and vegetables, and she also loved bird watching. Mary was also a tremendous cook. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Don; a son, Cecil “Pete”; a grandson, Aaron; a daughter, Kathy; and a brother, Glen. Greatly loved by Mary and appreciated by her immediate family were very special nieces, Rita Mosher, Linda Thebeau and Rita Jones. Forever in Mary’s heart were her dear friends, Mildred Newman and Lee Walder. Gratitude also goes out to sisters-in-law, Norma Condon and Mary Alice Steinke. The love and support of these family members and friends were truly the flowers in the garden of Mary’s life. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia and Norma; and three brothers, Corky, Ward, and Pitch. A funeral mass to celebrate Mary’s life will be held near Rankin, IL, with the details yet to be determined.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Mary’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
