George W. Wilson, Jr., 82, of Kenosha, passed away Thursday, June 12th, 2008, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus. Born in Vernon County, WI, on July 7, 1925, he was the son of the late George W. and Ocie (Hawes) Wilson, Sr. He lived in Zion, IL, before coming to Kenosha in 1961. George was in the United States Army from May 5, 1952, until his honorable discharge on May 5, 1954. He received the National Defense Service Medal. On June 24, 1956, he married Lola Metcalf in Kenosha. She preceded him in death on August 19, 2000. From 1966 until 1984, he and his wife were the owners and operators of the Mr. Softee Ice Cream Trucks in Kenosha. He also worked for the Kenosha United Schools from 1966 until his retirement in 1991. George was a member of the Soul's Harbor Pentecostal Church of God. He is survived by a son, Donald R. (Juanita) Wilson of Madison, WI; his four grandchildren, Anna, Rebekah, Corissa and Dominick; and a great-granddaughter, Layla. He is also survived by his companion, Lola Melendez of Kenosha. He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren, and two sisters, Helen Harding and Ava Hedman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 14th, at Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Warren Cemetery in Gurnee, IL. Visitation will be held on Saturday at Proko Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
