Melvin Roy Hames, 79, of Kenosha, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Monday, April 21st, 2008. Born in Kenosha on October 2, 1928, he was the son of the late William and Anna Hames. He was a lifelong resident of Kenosha and attended McKinley Grade School, McKinley Jr. High and Mary D. Bradford High School. He was a Corporal serving in the United States Army as an Aircraft Mechanic from November 27, 1950, until his honorable discharge on November 4, 1952. On October 10, 1953, he married Virginia Wilson in Chicago, IL. He was the produce manager for National Tea and A & P for 35 years. He also worked for 20 years part time as a bartender for Higgins Hob Nob. He loved working in his yard, enjoying flowers and gardening and received the Neighborhood House Beautiful Award. Melvin was busy from the time he got up until the time he went to bed. No one left Mel's house hungry, he always said "you gotta eat!" Most of all, Melvin loved his wife of 54 years and his family, and doted on his dogs. He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Kenosha; three daughters, Linda (Daniel) Weyrauch of Kenosha, Christine (Gary) VanBendegom of St. Charles, MO, and Laura (Timothy) Ade of Kaukauna, WI; grandchildren, Daniel, Brian, Scott, Lisa, Kelly, James, Adam and Rachel; four great-granddaughters; his dog, Sylvester; and cat, Boomer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 25th, at Proko Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
