Louis J. COVELLI
Louis J. Covelli, 90, of Kenosha, passed away Tuesday, March 25th, 2008, in Bonita Spring, FL, while involved in his passion of golfing. Born in Kenosha on April 12, 1917, he was the son of the late Achille and Rose (Conti) Covelli. He was a lifelong resident of Kenosha, where he attended McKinley Jr. High and Kenosha High School. During the last four years, he wintered in Florida. On January 25, 1939, he married Julia Ferrante at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. She passed away February 7, 2004. He was the former owner of S. Covelli and Sons Wholesale Produce since 1939. He stayed involved in the produce business until retiring in 1999. A member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Italian American Men's Society, and Knights of Columbus Council #973, Louie was an avid golfer and bowler. Still very competitive, he golfed several times a week until he passed away. Amazingly, he was still able to golf his age or lower. He also enjoyed the dog track and playing cards with friends. Surviving are a son, Gary L. (Carol) Covelli of Austin, TX; two daughters, Elizabeth (Gerald) Wade of Kenosha and Tina Marie Covelli of Milwaukee; a brother, Bennie (Julia) Covelli of Kenosha; seven grandchildren, Phillip (Robin) Wade, Gary (Mary) Wade, Michael (Susan) Wade, Christopher (Katie) Wade, Julie (John) Standerfer, Lori (Doug) Baumgarten, and Angela Covelli; and seven great-grandchildren, Anne-Marie Wade, Nicholas Wade, Madalyn Wade, Drew Wade, Zachary Wade, Kyle Wade, and Sophia Standerfer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends in Kenosha and Florida. He was greatly respected and loved by all. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Richard Covelli, Frank Buttera, and Mike, Anthony, Alfred, Louis and Lawrence Morrone; and three sisters, Anne Covelli, Elizabeth Stella and Filomena DeRango. Known for his great smile, he loved meeting and greeting people and enjoying their company. His legacy is how he cherished life and loving his family, teaching all by example that family closeness and taking care of each other is paramount to a good life. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 2nd, from Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Mass to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. James Cemetery. Dear Bethann, Gary and Tina, My deepest sympathies to all of you and your families. Your dad was an incredible man and loved by everyone he met. I cannot tell you how he always remembered me and my children when we would see him at the Casa, even if a year had passed. My dad loved him so much, he always spoke of him as the best guy one could ever know. He loved your mom too. I know how you feel, both parents are now gone, but they will never leave you. I feel my parents around me all of the time. My brother died so young and my parents were in their early eighties, both not as healthy as your dad. So, to live as long as he did and to be able to golf until he died is remarkable. He was a remarkable man. I have never heard one person speak in anyway other than with kindness about your dad. His eyes would twinkle when he smiled and I loved him so much. I have his snow white hair, so I think of him every time someone compliments me. We all used to say how beautiful your dad's hair was he was a handsome, gentle man. I hope the flowers were beautiful I wanted to be there tonight, but I have had a knee replacement and now the flu. If I am better in the am, I'll get to Mass. I love you and will keep you in my prayers. Love, Pam

Dear Uncle Lou, you know how much we all loved you, and i will miss especially those weekly phone calls and visits, discussing your blood pressure and you asking "how my father is doing today?". Beth, Gary, and Tina too will miss you everyday as you were our rock, and i couldn't have asked for a better Godfather. My Dad as sick as he is, sadly misses you, but was relieved to know that you died on the golf course, doing what you loved to do. You are in my prayers and thoughts daily, God-bless and goodbye. Love, Bernie
