Rose E. Hawkins, 88, of Kenosha, passed away Tuesday, December 18th, 2007, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus. Born on April 14, 1919, in Wakefield, MI, she was the daughter of the late Maude and John Castle. She attended and graduated from Wakefield High School with 'honors' and a full college scholarship. In 1940, she married Comrade (Slim) Hawkins. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before his death in 1993. She worked for 30 years in the Kenosha Unified School System; 20 years as head of the food services for Tremper High School. Nonnie was the guiding light of her family, helping raise two nieces, Yvonne Hawkins and Coleen Evansted, and her own two children, Gary (Debby) Hawkins and Mary Kae (Dr. Robert Heller, Jr.). Her home was always filled with the aroma of bread baking, cookies cooling, and the mixture of Italian spices from her homemade ravioli and lasagna. For Rose there was no greater joy than her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her granddaughters were always recognized by their 'bows' in their hair that she made to match all their outfits, and she recently made 40 new ones for her little great-granddaughters. Rose never missed her grandson's football games, her granddaughter's tennis games, and was her grandson's sub for his paper route. Love, life and laughter filled her life for all those who shared in it. In addition to her children she was surrounded by her grandchildren, Kim (Marc Marotta) and their children, Karley, Chloe, Cameron, and McKenna, Kreg Heller, Kellie (Brian Taffora) and their children, Brylie and Brock, Juliette Heller Amann, Jamie (Todd Gusman), and their children, Haley, and Drew, and Steven Hawkins, her brothers, Pat (Marilyn) Castle, Jack Castle, sisters Jean (Don) Evansted, Marie (Dr. Orlie) Johann. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Francis and Billy, and her sister, Patricia. She also had many loving and special nieces and nephews and special caregiver--Valentyna Arkhelyuk. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22nd, from Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 am. Mass to be celebrated at St. Mark's Catholic Church at 10:00 am. Entombment to follow at All Saints Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Friday at Proko Funeral Home from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Rose’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
