James D. "Chief" Landreth, 79, of Kenosha, passed away Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007, at St. Catherine's Medical Center. Born in Illinois September 21, 1928, he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Bonnie (Liggett) Landreth. Living in Illinois for several years, he then moved to Kenosha where he spent the remainder of his life. On November 23, 1968, he married his first and only wife, Betty Jane M. Landreth, "The Goat Lady," at Grace Lutheran Church. She passed away in February of 2007. Jim grew up on a farm with oil rigs. He was an avid bowler and very proud of the fact that he came one pin short of a perfect game. Even though Jim had never fathered any natural children with Betty, he treated her children as his own. Accepting the responsibility not only as "step-dad", but as a father figure, always being there. Jim was a good provider for his family, even when the Alzheimer's disease started taking over, causing Jim to take an early retirement from The American Brass, where he was employed for many years. Jim maintained a routine of working, but was solely on the Hobby Farm, with his wife Betty, "The Goat Lady," whom had built up this Hobby Farm just as that, a Hobby, but through many years to follow, had established a place together where people could just stop and look at the "menagerie" of various types of farm animals, stop to get farm fresh eggs, or even a neighbor asking for Betty's help or advise on an animal. This we believe was made possible with Jim being there. Helping the farm, and in turn Betty and the farm helping Jim and others. He is survived by a sister, Loran Lee Cook of Illinois; a brother, Clyde Landreth of Arizona; a nephew, Kenneth (Loretta) Landreth of Kenosha; five step children, Christine Ann Rucker of Dallas, TX, Mitchell H. Zyskowski of Kenosha, Jerome R. Hansen, Jr. of Kenosha, Tina M. Wright of Kenosha and Dorothy J. (Geoffrey) Markus of Racine, WI; seven step grandchildren, Michael Asta of Florida, Aaron M. (Karen) Korsmo of Kenosha, Jacklyn K. Hansen of Racine, Jerome R. Hansen III of Kenosha, Catherine R. Hansen of Kenosha, Kyle R.A. Wright of Austin, TX, and Deidre M.C. Wright of Austin, TX; and several step great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 27th, at Proko Funeral Home from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Memorials to Cancer Treatment Centers of American in Jim's name on behalf of his wife Betty Jane would be appreciated.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit "Chief's" Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
