Charles F. Kugel, 86, of Kenosha, passed away on Wednesday, October 10th, 2007, at Washington Manor Nursing Home in Kenosha, WI. Born on January 1, 1921, in Lena, WI, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Margaret Ann (Kubs) Kugel. He was enlisted with the Navy, serving in the 7th Fleet in the Leyte Gulf, from September 27, 1943, until his honorable discharge as Ensign on July 2, 1946. Charles was a math and science teacher, counselor and basketball, baseball and football coach at Bonduel H.S. from 1948-1954, and from 1960-1962. He was President and G.M. of Tri-County Gas Service in Lena from 1954-1960. He moved to Kenosha in 1964. He married Mary Esther Fuller of River Falls, WI, on June 5, 1965, at St. Paul's Chapel in Madison, WI. He received his B.S. degree in Science and Math Secondary Education in 1948: his M.S. degree in counseling and his PhD in Counselor Education/Educational Psychology in 1968 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Charles was employed as a Counselor, recruiter and teacher for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside from 1964 until 1976. He was a realtor at Baltes/Selsberg from 1979 to 1996. He enjoyed golfing and bowling on the UWP faculty-staff leagues. He also passed his time gardening, berry picking, walking in the woods, singing, playing the ukulele and watching Wisconsin football. He was an active member at St. Peter's Catholic Church, past president of the Friends of the Kenosha Public Museum, involved with the Shalom Center, volunteered at the Lord of Life homeless shelter and a member of the Kiwanis and Serra Club. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 42 years; three children, Jonathan Kugel, Elizabeth Young, and Chris Kugel, all of Kenosha; a sister, Lucy (George) Hendrichs of Oconto Falls, WI; and three grandchildren, Kyle, Jacob, and Sarah Young, all of Kenosha, along with numerous loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Emily Bernard and Agnes Lisle; two brothers, George and Tony Kugel; and a son-in-law, Kevin Young. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 13th, at St. Peter's Catholic Church at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Interment to be private at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations could be made to the Shalom Center of Kenosha. Practicing random acts of kindness in keeping with Charles' giving nature or planting a tree in his name, would also be a fitting gesture.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Charles' Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
