Family and friends bid farewell to the Matriarch of the Mars Cheese Castle. Martha Mary Ventura, 88, of Kenosha County, died on Thursday, August 9th, 2007, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus. Martha Ventura was born on March 17, 1919 in Devon, PA. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Caroline (Scartossi) Angelone. Raised by her aunt, Maria Ricci, of Oak Park, IL, Martha was a graduate of Trinity High School in River Forest, IL, and attended Rosary College. She married Mario J. Ventura, Sr. on January 27, 1940; he preceded her in death on March 11, 2004. Martha spent sixty-four years as the “woman behind the man.” As cofounder and president of Mars Cheese Castle, she took an active role in the landmark business for the last 60 years. The Mars’: Martha and Mario, originated the Mars Cheese Castle in 1947. Martha Ventura’s life centered on work and family. She spent her whole life surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in business and at home.
