Alfred R. “Al” Petri, 69, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 23rd, 2007 at Brookside Care Center after enduring a long-term illness with Alzheimer’s. After attending college, Alfred took a position at Walgreens Headquarters in Chicago. Alfred and Sandra moved to Salem, WI in 1964 to make their home. Alfred was then hired on at American Motors Corporation as a Computer Operator and worked there for 25 years. When American Motors Corporation closed their operations in Kenosha in 1988, he later took a position as a Computer Operator at Outboard Marine Corporation in Waukegan, IL, where he worked for five years which led him into an early retirement due to his illness. Surviving are his wife, Sandra “Sandy” Petri of Kenosha; son, Brad and wife, Tonya, and granddaughters, Tana and Gretchen of Vero Beach, FL; daughter, Valerie and husband, Charles Kovach of Cedar Rapids, IA; and sister, Marie Rau of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Heinz and William “Bill” and a sister, Charlotte. The family would like to express our thanks to both the staff of Brookside Care Center and Dr. Joe Garretto for their wonderful care. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 26th, at Proko Funeral Home at 12:00 noon. Interment to follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI. My Dad, Chet Petersen, was Al's Brookside next-door neighbor for many years, so I was able to witness, first-hand, the love affair between Sandy and Al. Alzheimer's never robbed them of that bond. Al was a class act and a gentleman, a perfect match for his loving and devoted Sandy. I have to work, so I will be unable to attend Al's funeral, but please know that I am there in spirit. God bless you.
