Monroe MITCHELL, JR.

1935 ∼ 2007

Monroe Mitchell, Jr., 72, of Kenosha, passed away Monday, July 2nd, 2007, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus. Born in Parkdale, AR, on April 30, 1935, he was the son of the late Monroe and Corine (Quarker) Mitchell, Sr. He came to Kenosha from Cleveland, OH, 49 years ago to make his home. He married Clennie Steele in Kenosha. He was a machine operator at American Motors Corp/Chrysler Corp. for 34 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, sat on the Usher Board, he sang in the Men's Choir, sat on the Deacon Board and also served as a Trustee. He was also a member of Local #72 and the Ke-Nash-A Club. Monroe loved to work in his garden which fed many in the community. He enjoyed grilling tons of rib tips, which included his "Secret Recipe" for sauce. He loved sharing his wisdom to all who would listen. For years he made sure the youth had transportation to school and back. He volunteered for the youth breakfast and family Christmas parties. Many hours were given to the community at large. He is survived by his wife, Clennie of Kenosha; seven daughters, Patricia (John) Baldwin of Kenosha, Marjorie (Larry) Bunch of Kenosha, Rosemary Denson of Lenexa, KS, Lorraine Jones of Lenexa, KS, Cynthia (Arthur) West of Kenosha, Diane (John) Beard of Kenosha, and Betty Jean Ruffin of Racine; three sons, Jimmy D. (Kathy) Hill of Austin, TX, Frankie Lee (Angela) Mitchell of Kenosha, and Monroe Mitchell III of Kenosha; a sister, Girl Lean Bowie of Cleveland, OH; a brother, Enoch (Decker) Mitchell of Kenosha; twenty-one grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his special God children, Juan Kentcy, Freddie Jenkins, and Olivia and Owen Williams; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Howard Lee Hill; three brothers, Fred, Charlie and Handy Mitchell; son-in-law, Lindsey Ruffin; and daughter-in-law, Karen Hill. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 7th, from the Second Baptist Church at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Green Ridge Cemetery.
