Viola D. Swanningson, 87, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, June 11th, 2007, at Washington Manor. She was born on December 15, 1919, in Kenosha, the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Mackiewicz) Kulbiski. She attended local schools. On April 21, 1939, she married Marvin Swanningson in Dubuque, IA. He preceded her in death. She was employed at Coopers (Jockey International) and American Motors from which she retired after 30 years, on March 1, 1982. Viola was a Charter Member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed Local 72 Retirees Club, St. Mary's Lutheran Friendly Center, Trinity Lutheran Senior League and traveling with the Kenosha Public Museum. She was a long-time member of the Theater Historical Society of America, traveling across country to visit historic theaters. She enjoyed traveling, reading mysteries, opera, ceramics, collecting antique sad irons, and planning mystery trips for her family. She is survived by two daughters, Asenath (William) Thurau and Judith Niles, both of Kenosha; a brother, Matthew Kulbiski of Schaumburg, IL; and three grandchildren, Gregory Thurau of Libertyville, IL, Bradley Thurau of Kenosha, and Laura Niles-Fowle of Streamwood, IL. Bringing her much happiness later in life were her five great-grandchildren, Julia and Hannah Thurau, Stephanie and Joshua Fowle, and Andre Thurau. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and John Kulbiski; and two sisters, Josephine Lester and Hattie Patalocchi. A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 24th, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 4600-60th Street, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Interment will be private.
