May your memories be a source of comfort to you and your family. There is an emptiness that only those who have lost a parent can understand the pain of separation. If there is anything at all we can do, please do not hesitate to call. We'd love to communicate with you and want to give your our home phone number. We are living in Atlanta, GA now. I first met Edo Maccari 37 years ago when I met Rita and became best friends during our year at Kenosha Technical. Edo welcomed me into his family as another daughter and my girls grew up with an extra grandpa....what a wonderful happening in our life being touched by this family. Edo was so proud of his family and all their accomplishments. You could not stop at the house without him taking you into his room of wall hangings to show you either something he achieved or one of his children accomplished. I had my first exposure to baseball through Edo and Rita who are both "Die Hard Cub Fans". Edo had some funny quirks that always brought smiles and good times to talk about like his tennis balls in the garage and the line separating where to park. He labeled everything inside and out. This friendship was my first exposure to an Italian family and the love and acceptance they share with their friends. As I think back on watching Paul get his drivers license, Lil' Edo as the stand up comedian, and Theresa as that little girl chasing all the boys at Rita's wedding, along with watching them grow into the great adults they are today, I truly feel blessed to know and be part of this family. Edo is up in heaven now labeling things and God is lucky to have this caring man in His arms. Edo you will truly be missed by everyone you touched in your wonderful life. Kenosha now has a huge void but you will always be remembered. No one can think of a Veteran without thinking of you and all you did for them. Thanks for the love and wonderful memories! My thoughts and prayers are with those you leave behind to heal from the sorrow and smile at the memories.

My condolences and sympathy to the entire Maccari family, which has been a second family to me my entire life, it is hard to imagine a world without Grandpa Maccari in it. The memories of the fun we had at the house on 80th Street, the pool, the New Years parties in the basement, 4th of July parades, Luigis pizza and just getting together with some of the best friends a kid could ever wish for. Each and every get together with the Maccari family was a special event and I treasure every moment I got to spend with Edo, Mary and the entire Maccari clan. Edo was an amazing man who did many great things for our world and our veterans and I hope that his legacy will live on for many years.

Please accept my deepest sympathy on Edo's going on indefinite leave. Everyone who knew him and had a chance to work with him on the projects he believed in took great pleasure in his ever present humor and enthusiasm.Kenosha and Southeastern Wisconsin have lost a great friend and one we were all lucky to have for a good long time. His tireless advocacy for veterans will not be replaced by any one person. Edo's shoes are simply too big to fill.Be well,MikeMichael J. To Nana and family: I found myself at a loss for what to respectfully say to the family to offer condolence for the loss of such a good and courageous man. So I turned to Google to search for images and articles that document some of Edos more public accomplishments. My quest was to see Edos face full of life and to jar memories of what it was like to stay in his always-open home (thank you Nana) and hear stories of his past (thank you Edo). His greatest accomplishment was much easier to reflect upon and required no searching (a no-brainer in my mind)its the amazing family which he has left as his legacy. With these findings I gain great comfort and my hope is that you will as well. For a fleeting glimpse, a warm memory and hopefully even an audible smile, please visit the site below and witness the adornment of Nanas face alongside Edo (http://dva.state.wi.us/Cem_sw_memorials.asp)Edo Maccari was the familys patriarch. He was a loving husband, a loyal patriot and a treasured grandfatherand he will be greatly missed.

Mary and family,Edo's passing will leave a hole in the heart of many people. I will always remember him as the proverbial day-old Twinkie -- crusty on the outside, but a real softie on the inside. He never backed down from anyone when it came to making sure veterans were given their due. His legacy as one who supported and fought for his veteran friends (and all veterans were his friends) will live on.Diane GilesKenosha News reporter
