Gilda C. Schiaffino, 79, of Kenosha, passed away unexpectedly due to a stroke on Tuesday, May 15th, 2007, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Wauwatosa. Born in Kenosha on September 7, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Anton and Mary (DeRose) Redo. She grew up in Kenosha and attended Jefferson Grade School, Washington Jr. High School and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1945. She married Eugenio Schiaffino. They later divorced. She worked at Lepp & Co. for many years. She loved sales and the public. For 35 years she ran a successful day care. Many of the children she cared for kept in contact through the years, which she loved. She loved to cook and read. Gilda was an avid nature lover; she loved all animals and birds, especially cardinals and her two dogs. She is survived by a son, Eugene Schiaffino; a daughter, Gilda (Roger) Smith; two granddaughters, Meghan Schiaffino and Brittany Herr; a sister, Eileen (Mike) Gallo, a brother, Orland Redo; nephews, Gary, James, and Michael Gallo; and a niece, Traci (Bill) Day. She will be sadly missed by her friends, especially Cathy Niermann. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary (DeRose) Frulla, and her beautiful step-father, Gaudenzio (Joe) Frulla. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 19th, at Proko Funeral Home at 2:30 pm. Visitation will be held on Saturday at Proko Funeral Home from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm. The family wishes to thank the emergency room at United Hospital for their kindness and Froedtert Hospital for the excellent staff and care she received.
