On April 26th, 2007, Ardell passed away peacefully in her sleep at Brookside Care Center. Ardell was born on July 21, 1921, in Kenosha, to the late Charles Hansen, Sr. and Martha Watts. She graduated from Mary D. Bradford High school in 1939. Ardell married Leonard Lee Lyons, Sr. on February 14, 1942, and was his primary care giver until his untimely death at the age of 50 in 1972, after he developed debilitating Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 23. She was awarded recognition for her community service to Kenosha residents in the “Wives in Their Lives” series in 1960. She returned to school at 45 years of age and graduated with honors from Kenosha Technical Institute in 1966 as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked at Kenosha Memorial Hospital on 5 Cooper and transferred to 5 Palmer once it opened until her retirement at 64 years old. Ardell was an avid reader and well known in all the Kenosha library branches. She loved to cook and bake and share her wares with family and friends. She especially loved to study cook books and continued to collect recipes long after she was able to prepare them. Ardell was preceded in death by her siblings, Charles Hansen, Jr., Rae Smith, Laverne Haag and Sharon Muhlick. She is survived by her children, Leonard Lee Lyons, Jr. of Kenosha, Jeffrey (Linda) Lyons of Kenosha and Shari (Peter Braudrick) Lyons of Mendocino, CA; grandchildren, Pete (Michelle) Lyons of Kenosha, Daniel Lyons of Socorro, NM, Benjamin Braudrick of Spokane, WA, and Nathaniel Braudrick of Eugene, OR; and great-grandchildren Sydney and Andrew Lyons, both of Kenosha. A memorial service for family members and friends to gather and celebrate Ardell’s life will be held on Saturday, June 2nd, at Proko Funeral Home at 10:30 am.
