Dorothy Elizabeth Garnero, 88, of Kenosha, quietly passed away on Saturday, December 30th, 2006, with her loving daughter at her side. Born February 26, 1918, in Oconto, WI, she was the daughter of the late John and Beatrice (O'Neil) Sucharda. The family moved to Kenosha in 1919 where Dorothy attended local schools and graduated from high school. On July 1, 1939, she married Alfred Emil Garnero. After fourteen years of marriage, they were blessed with a baby daughter, Kathryn Helen. Like many women of her generation, Dorothy did not work outside the house. She took pride in keeping an immaculate home and her cooking rivaled that of a fine restaurant. Her greatest joy was raising her daughter and later in helping with her grandson. Family always came first with Dorothy and she was a devoted mother and grandmother. Dorothy was a truly unselfish person who would do anything for her family. Emil often said that Dorothy had to be the sweetest girl in the world to put up with him for over 60 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Emil in July 2005 and has looked for him every day since then. She was also preceded in death by her sister and best friend, Helen McClusky, and her brothers, Chester and Lester Sucharda. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Bob Bassinger; grandson, Jason Hedman; and great-granddaughter, Krista Hedman. A special thanks needs to be given to the wonderful, compassionate staff of Brookside Care Center 3 wing unit. The family will never forget the kind care that Dorothy received during her three years at Brookside. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 3rd, at Proko Funeral Home at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of the service.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533www.prokofuneralhome.com
