Bill Houston, 85, passed away on June 26th, 2006 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI. Bill was born in Chicago, IL, on January 23, 1921, the son of the late William Houston and Irene Rose Theobald. His family moved to Wisconsin when he was a young child. On June 28, 1941, he married Dorothy Lemorand in the Presbyterian Church of Kenosha. They resided in Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie until 1975, when they moved to Tomahawk, WI, and several years later to Harlingen, TX. Dorothy preceded him in death in Texas in June 1989. Their daughter, Judith Eileen, passed away in 1954. Bill served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an infantryman and expert at rifle and howitzer repair, and served as an artillery instructor. A participant in the 'Battle of the Bulge', he was one of thousands of U.S. soldiers captured by German forces, and was a POW for four months. After the war, he kept in contact with Army buddies, and enjoyed attending reunions throughout the U.S. Bill retired from the American Brass Company in 1975, following 35 years of service. In August 1992, in Brownsville, TX, he married Elaine Butterfield, who preceded him in death in Minnesota in November 2005, after a long illness. Survivors include his sister, Virginia (Al) Sorensen of Humboldt, IA; his daughters, Carole (John) Rock and Gail (Kenneth) Stein, both of Pleasant Prairie; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Bill was a true sportsman who loved golfing, fishing, hunting, archery, trap shooting, and travel. He had been a member of several clubs. His family is grateful for the highly professional and compassionate staff at the Veteran Home in King, WI. Bill was cremated, and a memorial service will be held at the Proko Funeral Home on Monday, July 3rd, at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park with full military honors.
