Edward G. "Sandy" Sandberg, 85, of Kenosha, passed away Sunday, April 23rd, 2006, at Kenosha Care Center. Born November 4, 1920, in Kenosha, he was the son of the late Frank L. and Theresa K. (Krome) Sandberg. He attended St. James Catholic School, Lincoln Jr. High School and Kenosha High School. He was enlisted in the United States Army from October 27, 1942, until his honorable discharge on November 18, 1945. On May 31, 1947, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, he married Antoinette A. Jonik. He had been employed by Simmons Co. and later for American Motors Corp, driving cars off the assembly line to the lot, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, UAW Local 72, and VFW Junker Ball Post 1865. He called bingo and he assisted at veteran's funerals, served on the House Committee, Cooties, the DAV, and was past Hospital Chairman for the Woods Wisconsin Veterans Home, Blind Ward. In 1991, he received the VFW Man of the Year award. Surviving are his wife, Antoinette of Kenosha; four sons, Don T. (Darlene) Sandberg, David L. (Christina) Sandberg, Dann F. (Cyndi) Sandberg, and Douglas A. (Kathryn) Sandberg, all of Wisconsin; a daughter, Donna J. (Timothy) Besch of Kenosha; daughter-in-law, Vicky Sandberg; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dale E. Sandberg; and two sisters, Lillian Shemanske and Irene Hunt. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 26th, at St. James Catholic Church at 10:30 am. Entombment to follow at All Saints Mausoleum with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at St. James Church from 9:30 am until the time of Mass.
