Donald H. Layton, 82, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away on Saturday, March 18th, 2006, at Brookside Care Center. Born on December 12, 1923, in Lebanon, IN, he was the son of the late Roy and Florence Layton. He was educated in the schools of Indiana and was a graduate of Dover Indiana High School. He farmed in Indiana in his younger years. He enlisted with the U.S. Marines on April 14, 1945, and was honorably discharged on October 8, 1946. On June 22, 1946, in Kenosha, he married Edith Markwart at Immanuel Baptist Church. He was employed at Lakeshore Transit, as a Bus Driver for Jane Vernon Orthopedic School for 25 years. He was then employed at the Kenosha Unified School District Transit for 15 years. He was an avid fan of Indiana Hoosier Basketball and enjoyed the Chicago Bears and Cubs. He loved gardening, was a faithful church supporter and was devoted to his family. He was an usher at Baptist Tabernacle Church and worked with the Boy Scouts. He then joined Immanuel Baptist Church in 1987 where he was a Sunday School Teacher and AWANA Instructor. He is survived by his wife, Edith Layton of Pleasant Prairie; two sons, Galen Layton of Pleasant Prairie, and Kimber (Vilma) Layton of Orlando, FL; a daughter, Rebecca (Scott) Bilot of West Allis, WI; and four grandchildren, Robert, Ashley, Joshua and Stephanie Layton. He was preceded in death by his four sisters, Mary Lancaster, Dorothy McDaniel, Marjorie Reynolds, and an infant sister at birth; and a brother, Morris Layton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 21st, at Proko Funeral Home at 11:00 am. Full Military Honors to follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI.
