Vasily E. Kalikin, 74, formerly of DesPlaines, IL, late of DeLand, FL, passed away Sunday, February 5th, 2006, at his residence. Born October 31, 1931, in Prague, Czechoslovakia, he was the son of the late Eugene and Maria (Khempl) Kalikin. During war ravaged times, he was educated at a Russian Displaced Persons Camp near Munich, Germany. On July 17, 1955, he married Nadine Kolarovitch in Casablanca, Morocco. He immigrated to the United States from Morocco in 1958 and then moved to Chicago in 1959. In 1995, he retired to DeLand, FL. During his career as a civil engineer, he had been employed at Beneash, O'Neil, Pora and McHue Construction Companies. He was a member of the Holy Virgin Protection Russian Orthodox Church in Des Plaines, and was affiliated with the Russian Studies Program at Stetson University in DeLand. A very charitable person, he was a benefactor of the Tolstoy Foundation. During the early 1950s, he was National Champion of Morocco in Table Tennis and Volleyball. Surviving are his wife, Nadine of DeLand; a son, Eugene P. (Celia) Kalikin of Union, MO; two daughters, Claudia (Konstantinos) Giannakopoulos of Wilmot, WI, and Tania (D. George) Carlozzi of Salem, WI; and thirteen grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 18th, 2006, at the Proko Funeral Home, 5111-60th Street, at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Wilmot Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
