Maria F. Torres, 81, of Kenosha, passed away Sunday, October 23rd, 2005, at Kenosha Medical Center. Born in Lares, Puerto Rico, on May 18, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Evaristo and Juana (Rivera) Soto. She was educated in the schools of Puerto Rico. She moved to Youngstown, OH, in 1953, then Chicago, IL, and in 2002 she came to Kenosha to make her home. In 1972, she married Ricardo Torres in Racine. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1987. She was formerly a cook for various restaurants and did babysitting. She enjoyed embroidery, plants, and flowers. Surviving are a son Raul (Diana) Ramos of Chicago; a daughter, Karen Pena of Kenosha; two sisters, Virginia Soto of Chicago, and Angelita Santiago of Kenosha; a brother, Narcisco "Tito" (Delores) Soto of Bloomingdale, IL; twelve grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Iris Caban; a son, Leonardo Ramos, Jr.; three sisters; and five brothers. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 28th, at the Proko Funeral Home at 12:00 noon. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery in Paddock Lake.
