Gertrude Groff, 84, of Kenosha, passed away Tuesday, September 13th, 2005, at Washington Manor Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Daaden, Germany, on March 4, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Emily (Sturm) Demmer. She came to the United States and Kenosha in 1926 to make her home. She attended the schools of Kenosha, graduating from Mary D. Bradford High School. On May 6, 1944, at St. Mary Catholic Church, she married Walter Groff. She had been employed by Jockey International from 1939 until 1945, and later at J.C. Penny's from 1962 until 1982. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years and a member of the Altar Guild of Trinity Lutheran Church. Gertrude enjoyed playing Bridge, traveling and golfing. Surviving are her husband, Walter; a son, Thomas W. (Nancy) Groff; a sister, Betty Speaker; two grandchildren, Eric N. and Kari M. Groff; two nieces; and three nephews, all of Kenosha. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis A. Groff on February 29, 1969, a U.S. Army Medic killed in Vietnam. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 16th, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment to be private at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at Trinity Lutheran Church.
