Aline GHYSELS

1906 ∼ 2005

Aline GHYSELS
Aline Ghysels, 99, daughter of Polidoor and Elodie Vermeulen, died peacefully on Mother's Day, May 8th, in Whitewater, WI. She was born on March 17, 1906 in Zingem, Belgium. After a whirlwind romance and marriage to Victor Ghysels, who had been visiting relatives in Belgium, she sailed to America in 1930. They settled in Kenosha with his family. Aline, her husband and son, Paul, were prominent farmers in Kenosha for many years; however, interest in farming began to wane after the tragic death of their son in 1955. Aline and Victor subsequently decided to subdivide their property; and the development of Ghysels' Estates became instrumental in the early expansion of the northbound city limits. Although having been educated in Belgium, Aline taught herself to read and write in English and became a valuable partner in their development company. She loved gardening and her flowers brightened the corner of 24th street and 30th Avenue for many years. When winter came she would spend her time crocheting beautiful afghans for family and friends. She had been a long time member of St. Peter's Parish. Following a hip injury in December 2001, Aline moved to Whitewater in order to be more easily cared for by her granddaughter, Victoria. Aline was proceeded in death by her husband, Victor, and son, Paul. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Paul Ghysels (Katy) of Berkley, California, Victoria Ghysels of Whitewater, John Rutoski (Cheryl) of Rosemount, Minnesota, and Tammie Lohff (Rodney) of Whitewater; and her great-grandchildren, Kristine, Marie and Jacob Rutoski and Lawton and Lauren Lohff; and also her daughter-in-law, Mary (Vena) Ghysels Rutoski and her husband Tony, whom Aline thought of as her own daughter and son-in-law. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14th, at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment to follow at St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the Mass at St. Peter's Church.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533www.prokofuneralhome.com

I don't know if this will get to the family of Aline Ghysels or not. I hope that it will, and I would like to express my sincere sympathy on your Loss. I didn't know about Aline's passing until just recently. My family was very good friends with Vic and Aline. We use to call them Uncle Vic and Aunt Aline. I would like to hear from the family members if this is at all possible. Thank you. Douglas Hughes

We are so sorry to hear about Aline. We were neighbors for many years. In fact Vic and Joe Mastronardi built our first home @ 2814-27th Street and later @ 2930- 24th Street. We lived right across the street from Vic and Aline and enjoyed many conversations and laughs on their patio. They were both wonderful people! In the obituary it mentioned the beautiful flowers in their yard and we can still picture Aline in her straw hat tending her flower garden. She had the touch! It was many years ago, but we remember Vic making our youngest daughter's Christmas one she has never forgotten. Kids are so fickle as to what they want Santa to bring and we didn't get her a certain item because of that. On Christmas morning she was so disappointed because it wasn't under the tree. The day after Christmas we bought it for her and arranged with Vic to bring it over. He told her that he had a package with her name on it and it must have fallen out of Santa's sleigh into their yard. He made one little girl very happy! They were a wonderful couple and we will always have fond memories of them. With our sincerest sympathies to the Ghysels family,Rick and Marie Blasi
