John Rizzo, 89, of Kenosha, passed away Wednesday (February 16th, 2005) at Kenosha Medical Center. Born June 24, 1915 in Kenosha, he was the son of the late Michael Angelo and Rosaria (Cerminara) Rizzo. He was a lifelong resident of Kenosha, educated in local schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He entered the service March 30, 1942, and was honorably discharged September 18, 1945. He served in many campaigns, Algeria, French Moroccan, Tunisian, Sicilian, Naples, Foggia Rome Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the European Defense Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Silver and three Bronze Battle Stars, the Bronze Service Arrowhead with five overseas Service Bars, one Service Stripe, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. On April 23, 1949, at Our Lady of The Holy Rosary Catholic Church, he married Frances C. Haber. He had been employed by Simmons Co. for 19 years and American Motors/Chrysler for 20 years, retiring in 1980. He also worked as a shoe salesman. He was an avid walker, Green Bay Packer Fan and loved fishing and playing bocce ball. He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Holy Name Society and a former member of UAW local 72. Surviving are his wife, Frances; a son, David J. (Barbara) of Madison; two daughters, Deborah F. (Raymond) Larsen and Doreen A. (Larry) Leiting, both of Kenosha; two brothers, Emanuel and Peter Rizzo, both of Kenosha; a sister, Mary Martino of Kenosha; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Angelo, Louis, Nick, Frank and Charles Rizzo. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 19th, at 9:30 a.m. from Proko Funeral Home. Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment to follow at St. George Cemetery.
