Leonard A. Vaccarella, Sr., 84 of Kenosha, died Tuesday, March 27th, 2007, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus. Born in Chicago, IL, on August 11, 1922, he was the son of the late Antonio and Mary (Aversano) Vaccarella and step son of Frank Trovato. He came to Kenosha with his family in 1925 and was educated in the schools of Kenosha, St. James Grade School, McKinley Jr. High School and was a 1940 graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School. On September 18, 1943, he married Gertrude Genack at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He had been employed by Moriarity Manufacturing, Simmons Company, Nash Motors as an Aircraft Engine Tester and Ladish Tri-Clover for 29 years as a tool and die maker. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society of Mt. Carmel, Italian American Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, Senior Action Council, AARP, Charter Member of Kenosha Bowmen, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #286, Physical Culture Club and Road Runner Bicycle Club. He enjoyed archery and bicycling. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Vaccarella of Kenosha; a son, Michael Vaccarella of Kenosha; a daughter, Marie Serpe of Kenosha; two grandchildren, Anthony (Cindy Torchia) Serpe and Lisa (Daniel) Serpe-Becker; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Kaitlyn Becker. He was preceded in death by his father, Antonio Vaccarella; his mother, Mary; his step fathers, Frank Trovato and Antonio Buratti; and a son, Leonard Vaccarella, Jr. on April 22, 2006. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 30th, at Proko Funeral Home at 10:30 am. Mass to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday at Proko Funeral Home from 9:30 am until the time of services.
