Being neighbors as a kid had many rewards. Mrs. Merfeld was an excellent baker. On Halloween when we would trick or treat you knew going shouldn't pass up the Merfeld house. Mrs. Merfeld would greet you at the door then have you come with her into the kitchen where she made you a fresh doughnut for your treat. This was a yearly ritual for both her and the neighborhood kids. What a loving and giving soul this Saint was. She will truly be missed by many. Diane Sinnen-Schmeiser

Frances was my client at the bank, and as soon as I met her over 4 years ago, she became like a second grandmother to me. I loved hearing her stories of her growing up, her education (she was very happy to hear that my son started at Gateway last year, and sent a card to him wishing him luck), and about her family. And in return she always asked me how my family was doing, and asked about vacations or other events that I told her about and she remembered. I have kept her many cards that she wrote to me at the bank, and the personal Christmas cards and birthday cards she sent to my house. She truly was a remarkable woman and lived life to its fullest and with grace, dignity, and her belief in God. May he have wrapped his arms around her and welcomed her. She will be missed. -Kelly Laux

I also wanted to mention that she would bring us PussyWillows from her house, and we still have them at the bank. They are displayed proudly in a vase behind the teller line and will remain there in memory of her.
