Obituary for Amelia Caira

Print
After 87 years, Amelia Caira peacefully shed the bonds of this world on Saturday, October 27, 2018, for her life in eternity.
A daughter of the late Leopoldo and Carmela Chiappetta, Amelia was born October 1, 1931, in Rende (Calabria) Italy. She was educated in local schools there. Following the war, in January 1947 she married her childhood sweetheart Mario Caira in Rende. They have shared some 71 wonderful years together and raised three children.
In 1955 Amelia and Mario made their new home in the United States settling in Kenosha. She gave herself daily to family with the knowledge that there is no greater calling than being a wife and mother. Known for her skills in the kitchen she would often share time with her circle of friends preparing meals and baking. When not in the kitchen she enjoyed a variety of crafts & needlework, sharing her creations with family and friends.
Amelia was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and the Italian-American Ladies Auxiliary, and gave freely of herself to family and friends. A knowing smile and hug were her gifts to many. She took particular joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mario Caira survives his wife. Also treasuring her memory are daughter Lena (Fred) Schlater, and son Reno Caira both of Kenosha as well as son Tony (Terry Hartnell) Caira of Boca Raton, FL. Amelia leaves behind her brothers Franchino (Olimpia) Chiappetta of Rende and Leo (Marikay) Chiappetta of Kenosha.
The blessings of a growing family were a joy to Amelia. Her grandchildren include Peggy (Rodger) Kormylo and Reno Caira of Kenosha, Amy (Tommy) Cunningham of Atlanta and Gina (Jason) DiLeo of Orlando. Great-grandchildren surviving Amelia are Cameron & Katherine Kormylo, Gianna & Janessa DiLeo and Joseph & Edison Cunningham.
Her brothers’ children include Michelle Chiappetta, Lisa (Brian) Gibson, Camille (Jeffery) Kooi, John (Helen) Chiappetta. Residing in Italy are Leopoldo (Lucia Simone) Chiappetta and Carmela (Franco) Petrasso. Grand nieces and nephews include Olympia, Francesco and Valerio Chiappetta as well as Francesco Petrasso and Paola (Francesco Imbrogno) Petrasso.
The family expresses deep appreciation to Claridge House for their diligent care of Amelia in recent years.
Visitation in celebration of the life of Amelia Caira will be held Thursday, November 8th, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Proko Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 9th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 2223-51st Street, Kenosha. Entombment will follow at All Saint’s Mausoleum.
Family in Rende, Italy will gather on November 9th for a Mass in memory of Amelia Caira.
Memorials for Masses will be appreciated by the family, in lieu of flowers.
